Social media post ideas for May

When you’re running your small business, coming up with engaging and meaningful social posts can just feel like another thing to tick off the never-ending list! What on earth shoud you post that people will actually care about and react to? In our experience, the best idea is not to overcomplicate things. Some of the most engaging content is simple, honest and doesn't involve spending hours memorising a dance routine! Here we've listed five easy post ideas you can try this May. They're sure to get people liking, commenting and sharing.

1. Show the “behind the scenes” of your business
People love seeing what goes on behind closed doors. It could be you and your team packing orders, receiving and shelving a delivery of new stock or even just making your morning coffee before a busy day. Whatever it is, it helps your audience feel connected to you. It doesn’t have to be polished. In fact, it's best if it's not! The more real it feels, the better.

2. Share a quick tip or mini how-to guide
Think about something your customers are always asking you. Can you turn it into a quick tip? For example, a florist could share “3 ways to make your flowers last longer”. Or if you're a baker you might post a simple icing trick. These sorts of posts get saved and shared because they’re genuinely useful and they'll keep your customers coming back.

3. Before and after ('cos everyone loves a transformation)
We've found that transformation posts are always a winner. This could be your redesigned website, a room makeover, a newly styled product display, or even your team's new uniform. There’s something really satisfying about showing progress, and it instantly grabs attention as people scroll.

4. Ask a simple question
Sometimes the easiest way to get engagement is just to ask for it. Keep it light and easy to answer:
“Which one do you prefer?”
“Tea or coffee - what gets you going in the morning?”
“Should we stock this in blue or green?”
It gets people clicking, commenting and feeling involved in your brand.

5. Celebrate a small win
You don’t need a huge milestone to post about. Did you hit 100 orders? Literally just make it to the end of a busy week? Launch something new? Share it! People like supporting real businesses, and celebrating these moments helps build that connection. Plus, it reminds your audience you’re active and growing.

We hope these have been handy for you! Let us know over on Facebook if you tried any of them. Struggling to keep up with socials for your business? We can help! Get in touch today.
